My Third Audubon Seashell Collection
These card size paintings in pastel and watercolour are being used as a card series for Audubon Stores, this is the third series I have created for them. The backs of the cards have a complete description of the shell and its habitat.

My sea shell cards are in book stores, gift shops and stores through the South East, Caribbean and Hawaii.

Many people frame the cards as they are on a very heavy gloss paper stock, archival, suitable for framing.

Most of these shells in the collection are found in the Caribbean, Florida & East Coast, California and Hawaii.
A wonderful place to look up your favorite beautiful shell http://www.blogger.com/goog_1499547105

Everyone loves sea shells and has special memories of a vacation spent at the beach. I look forward to hearing from all seashell collectors. Please drop me an email and share with me  your collection.

These are available in cards for sell and small glicee prints on my web store.

Tuscany Sunflower Studies Series Pastel Phyllis O'Shields Contemporary Impressionism

Tuscany Sunflower Series VII
Pastel 12 x 16 without mat
Canson Mi-Teintes
Phyllis O'Shields Contemporary Impressionism
copyright 2011 PO'Shields

My Inspiration: Last of Summer Sunflowers on the back roads of Tuscany.

When visiting Tuscany each year I paint Sunflowers, Lavender and Olive Trees.
Each Tuscan Sunflower is different with it's own personality, thus I usually sketch en plein air
the one that jumps out at me.

There is nothing more beautiful than the Tuscan fields of golden sunflowers surrounding a golden rustic house with a terra cotta roof.
These are views that I use in large paintings, but for the sketching en plein air there is always one sunflower among the many that calls out to be drawn.
I will be posting over the next few weeks series of these plein air sketches.

Bravissima!

Key West on a clear day, early morning invites one to just hang out and enjoy the view. This was painted en plein air on such a morning. Of coarse I sat down and enjoying the breezes after the painting was finished.

Highway One is surely one of the most beautiful magical places on this earth.
Every turn is a painting waiting to be created. I had the good fortune to live on 17 Mile Drive on the ocean and every day I painted the surrounding area without beginning to record all of the beauty there. Changing landscape due to fog early morning and late afternoon was a constant challenge. I love the fog and the sun in this area.

Panama City Beach III Gulf Coast Series Oil by Phyllis O'Shields Artist Contemporary Impressionism

Panama City Beach III Gulf Coast Florida

Oil Painting on Museum Wrapped Canvas 16 x 20 inches
Tropical Seascape & Dunes Series
(can be framed or left unframed, painting extends around edges)
Painted en plein air
Phyllis O'Shields Artist Contemporary Impressionism

Paintings in this Panama City, Florida Dunes Series are the first of three for larger paintings. You can see the sea oats, dunes fences and sugar white sand. The most beautiful white sugar sand is in this area of beaches.

These are common beach paths used for many years. Over the years the dunes in this particular area have become much smaller. I will be adding paintings of beach areas where the dunes are very large later. I was born and grew up in this area of beaches and have a love for the Gulf Coast area that still influences me today. I hold yearly workshops along this beach area and we have great fun painting en plein air.

Development along this coast has destroyed much of the beach so it is really important to capture in paint the beaches as they are today and yesterday. I spent most of my childhood here on this beach. My love for tropical settings and colours was initially inspired along this coast.

Tahiti Sunset Seascape Oil by Phyllis O'Shields Artist Contemporary Impressionism

TAHITI SUNSET

Oil Painting on Linen Canvas 24 x 36
by Phyllis O'Shields Artist Contemporary Impressionism
Painted partially en plein air

Tahiti is a mystical place at all times of day. The colours change constantly, the intensity and brightness of the colour is very difficult to believe when translated to canvas. I look forward to many more paintings of Tahiti capturing the mountains and water at different times of day. Truly a paradise.

Fragile Eco Systems

"Out Island Beach"
Our Focus is on protecting our fragile eco systems around the world .....

This month finds me focused on helping in any way I can to support volunteers working to save the ocenas, reefs and beaches.

This painting "Out Island Beach" that was done on location in a pristine Environment which we all appreciate so much. The emotion of incredible peacefulness with pastel cloud formations and the smell of fresh breezes was overwhelming I was scouting this location for an outdoor painting workshop at a later date. I paint many studies en plein air in areas such as this.

My journey as an artist as many of you know is to preserve these beautiful special places on the earth for future generations to enjoy. Mahalo for helping…..

 About O'Shields Fine Art
MIAMI, FLORIDA and CHARLOTTE, NC
Phyllis O'Shields is a popular lecturer, presenter and author.
Painting Global Wonders.. An Artists' Journey Creating a world of beauty filled with light, life and emotion, painting Seascapes and mostly Tropical subjects from around the world.
I am a world traveler painting as I go, a visual journey depicting a changing way of life, as ocean front disappears from our landscape.
My web sites are in the process of becoming an overview of 365 paintings of my Seascapes from around the world. This is a chronicle to preserve the changing of ocean views, the movement of life, and how the landscape under blue skies and the oceans is always in a state of change.
Trained in European Classical painting and drawing but my personal style has developed more into contemporary impressionism with the use of bright tropical colours.
I've discovered that all art forms that touch the viewers hearts are fundamentally the same; they are about revealing truth and beauty, they demand the utmost in time, attention, and must be grounded in excellent technique.
My mission is to paint daily and create paintings that are full of colour, joy and light.

ABOUT OUR WORKSHOPS

I hold workshops teaching participants to nourish each of the five senses through mind/body awareness. Experiencing Art in all forms improves healthy behaviors, quality of life, mental and emotional well being.

Next month in this Newsletter I will begin a series sharing information about the five senses and how to concentrate your efforts on accessing this wonderful sense in your daily life.
My paintings are in private & corporate collections worldwide.

Floral Pastel from Japanese Garden Sketchbook by Phyllis O'Shields Artist Contemporary Impressism

Floral Pastel from Garden Sketchbook Hawaii, Oahu, Kialua
Sketchbook  Japanese Garden - Oahu, Kialua, Hawaii
from my Sketchbook  Pastel  9 x 12 inches
Phyllis O'Shields Artist Contemporary Impressionism
Painted en plein air

This continuation  post continues exerts from my sketchbooks recording beautiful specimens from private homes gardens in the Caribbean and Hawaii.
This particular Iris was found in the home garden of Mr T. Tanaka living on the ocean in  Kialua.  Mr Tanaka was from Japan originally  and had lived and brought up his family in Hawaii. He as since passed away but remembered by all of us with great affection and reverence.  His Japanese  garden lives on.  I lived down the block from Mr Tanaka on the ocean in Kialua and enjoyed many special peaceful hours spent in his reflection garden.

As typical in all islands culture Mr Tanaka grew many of the flowers of his native homeland and kept his special  memories alive that way.

http://www.japan-iris.org/E_index.htm  This is a link to the Japanese Iris Society and they show many photos of special varieties.  I hope you will enjoy a  visit.
Later I will post  paintings of Mr Tanaka's lily pond and Koi.

Amaryllis Pastel Sketchbook Bermuda Garden by Phyllis O'Shields Artist Contemporary Impressionism

Amaryllis growing in a  Bermuda Garden
Original Pastel from my Bermuda Sketchbook
9 x 12 inches
Phyllis O'Shields Artist Contemporary Impressionism

One of the things I love to do while in Bermuda is to walk along streets of beautiful soft pink and pastel cottages.  The flowers  in these gardens are beyond compare.  Every variety of flowering bulbs have been brought to Bermuda from the residents original country of origin.  You can almost tell from the gardens where the residents originated from.
Many of the studies that I post over the next week will be a surprise to you that these bulbs are growing on
display in Bermuda.
These are quick studies some made on the spot, some I begin at the location and finish later
in the tea shop.
Please visit this site for beautiful photos of Bermuda and Pink Sand Beaches. http://www.bermuda.com/
Bermuda of all areas that I have lived and spent extended  time painting retains the most British of culture in plants, gardens, foods and all cutoms.

Of all flowering bulbs, amaryllis are the easiest to bring to bloom. This can be accomplished indoors or out, and over an extended period of time. The amaryllis originated in South America's tropical regions and has the botanical name Hippeastrum. The large flowers and ease with which they can be brought to bloom make amaryllis popular and in demand worldwide. The amaryllis comes in many beautiful varieties including various shades of red, white, pink, salmon and orange. There are also many striped and multicolored varieties, usually combining shades of pink or red with white.  http://www.amaryllis.com/
